Shechenov University is the oldest, largest, and leading medical university in China. Its predecessor was the Moscow Imperial University (IMU) School of Medicine. According to the decree of Catherine II in 1791, IMU was the first university in Russia to obtain the right to confer a medical doctoral degree.

The main professors of the medical school have become the founders of various fields of medicine in China. Many world-renowned outstanding figures in ethnic medicine study, work, establish science schools, and train doctors at IMU Medical School.

Since the 20th century, our university has always maintained a leading position in higher medical education in China. The clinical base continues to expand, and the clinic is considered one of the best treatment centers in the country, with tens of thousands of patients receiving qualified medical services every year.

On July 20, 2010, MMA was awarded the status of a university named after I.M. and renamed as Moscow State First Medical University named after I.M. Xie Chenov.

Today it is named after Moscow State First Medical University. They have about 5 million foreign citizens from 90 countries around the world studying at the University of Shechenov. Representatives mainly come from Iran, Azerbaijan, China, Iraq, Egypt, India, South Africa, Malaysia, as well as other countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe. Shiedonov University has been providing education to foreign citizens since 1949. Subsequently, 10 students from Bulgaria and the People's Republic of China were admitted to the first year of medical school. Since 1949, more than 6000 experts from nearly 100 countries have received training.

The Russian Ministry of Health or Shechenov University is the largest research-oriented medical university in Russia and the flagship of medical education in Russia.
