Since its establishment, Pavlov State Medical University has become one of the leading medical research institutions in Russia.

The history of Pavlov can be traced back to the Women's Medical College (WMI) established on September 14, 1897 (26), which was the first educational institution in Russia and Europe to provide higher education opportunities for women. Soon, the Women's Medical Research Institute became recognized as an authoritative model for higher education and scientific organizations. Clinics and medical history departments have become centers for developing the most advanced diagnostic and treatment methods and applying them to medical practice.

In 1936, it was named after Nobel laureate Ivan Petrovich Pavlov. In 1994, the college was restructured into a university and named after I P. St. Petersburg State Medical University, named after Academician Pavlov.

In the 1990s, it developed into a research institute.

-In 1918, the first national institute for radiology and cancer research in Europe was established.

-In 1967, the first Soviet scientific research institute for lung disease was established.

-Pavlov University is the only university in the city with a comprehensive clinic: in 2010, it celebrated its 175th anniversary.

The university has 6 departments, 65 teaching and research offices, 56 science laboratories, 4 research institutes, and 10 science research, science teaching, and science practice centers.

The university has 131 professors, 174 science PhDs, 554 science associate PhDs, 10 academicians of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 12 scientists, 46 academicians of foreign academies and members of research groups

The main goal of the School of Dentistry at St. Petersburg National Medical University is to cultivate dentists who fully meet the requirements of the National Education Standards (GOS) for higher vocational education in the field of dentistry.
